Colorado’s failing economy
With an increase in inflation and continuing interference by state lawmakers who pass more and more regulations impacting the construction industry, agriculture, energy, retail, healthcare, small buisnesses and more, the cost of living in Colorado has people concerned about making ends meet.
Younger people like me who wish to own a home, are seeing that dream drift away from the realm of possibilities. A survey done by the Weld
County health department, shows younger residents and the Hispanic community are impacted the most by homelessness. We must be reminded to look for and encourage the involvement of the private sector. Coalition of Care has worked to partner with organizations to provide resources for those who need it the most. One solution we need to focus on is early prevention and intervention.
Housing is a priority as it affects our overall health and provides a sense of well-being. The problem many see, however, is the sector of those that are homeless who see it as a lifestyle rather than a problem, and there are, in fact, some who do not wish to be helped. We need to identify those people. More study on that would provide more insight. We need more experts in treatment for substance abuse or psychological counseling. Involving the private sector would allow for more collaboration between them and the public sector for more viable solutions around housing, treatments, and programs.
