Parents deserve better

Students across Colorado are not performing at grade level. With the ripple effect of COVID, our children have suffered not only from mental health issues but a loss of sound education. As a product of public education, and as one who has family in school, we have to act to help our children succeed and to thrive. Specifically, we need to allow for school choice and vouchers to fund our students/children not systems.

School choice remains very popular, and polls point to that. You have seen an increase in engagement from parents in their children’s education and in school board meetings. If the public education system is forced to compete, the quality of education will increase. Sadly, the teachers’ unions have lined up the pockets of the Democrat Party to prevent true educational freedom. They have grown to become like a “mob boss” masking behind being a voice for teachers. They have monopolized education, punished those who disagree with them, and declared war on parents.

In recent years, the Democrat-led state legislature has shot down options for school choice, tax credits for teachers, choice in pensions for teachers, and an amendment brought by Senator Barbara Kirkmeyer to give teachers a pay rise without adding debt. All of these were killed in committee by the Democrats. My opponent has voted against parental choice at every opportunity she has had.

I know teachers are overwhelmed, and I want to ensure that they enjoy their career choice again. Most teachers want to do the right thing, but we must acknowledge that some impose their views on certain topics that belong to the parents. When the teachers’ unions say “Teachers know what’s best for their kids,” they are disrespecting the parents.

I promise to work with my colleagues to do better by our children — and their parents!
